A Culmination of Yearlong Projects Working With Youth in the Baltimore Community
BALTIMORE— The Community Art Corps (CAC) at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) celebrates the conclusion of its 2009/2010 year with Movin’ Outside In, an exhibition of work made by community members and youth under the direction of CAC artists-in-residence at various sites across Baltimore City, on view Thursday, June 3–Monday, June 14 at Bunting Center’s Pinkard Gallery, 1401 W. Mount Royal Ave.
CAC member artists spend yearlong residencies with nonprofit organizations in Baltimore, where they work with youth and adults to build community through art-making. Movin’ Outside In highlights the different roles community artists play as facilitators, problem solvers and liaisons between Baltimore’s communities and MICA. Featured artists have spent their residencies of 2009/2010 with 901 Arts, Jubilee Arts Center, Refugee Youth Project, the Men’s Center, New Lens Productions, Baltimore Clayworks, Goodnow Community Center and The Club at Collington Square.
On Saturday, June 5 from noon–3 p.m., a free community festival and reception will take place in Cohen Plaza (in front of the Brown and Fox buildings, 1303 W. Mount Royal Ave.) featuring performances by the 901 Arts’ drumline, participatory dances that will be fun for the whole family, and a hip hop performance by a local MC trio.
